Murder mystery event to benefit Children's Museum

Who killed Flabbius Corpus? Was it Maximus Testosterus, or maybe Bogus Fortunatus?

You have the opportunity to solve this ancient Roman murder at the Children's Museum Murder Mystery Saturday. Cocktails are at 5 p.m. with dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Enjoy a tri-tip dinner and meet the eight prime suspects as we work to unravel the clues to this mystery. And, if you would like, wear a toga to get into the scene.

Before the dinner, bid on auction items that include Disney park-hopper tickets, Kirkwood and Mammoth ski packages, tickets to area sporting events, area hotel dine-and-stay packages, and many more.

Plan to get your tickets early since seating is limited and a sell-out crowd is expected. Tickets are $35 and available at the Children's Museum at 813 N. Carson St.

Artists tour in Alpine County

Markleeville will welcome the arrival of fall with its 9th annual Markleeville Artists Autumn Open Studio Tour, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The theme for the studio tour is "A Day in the Village." Spend the day visiting the studios of village artists creating pottery, photography, stained glass, oil paintings and watercolors and even handmade confectionary art. The free maps and guides to the Markleeville-vicinity homes and studios will be available during the weekend at the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce.

The guide includes the 11 artists' descriptions and locations as well as information about sponsors. Bright yellow and gold banners will be hanging throughout town, marking each artist's studio. For more information, go to www.markleevilleartists.com.

Buster Blue to play in Gardnerville

Americana indie-folk band Buster Blue will play Friday at Jethro's Live in Gardnerville Ranchos.

Buster Blue is an emerging group from Reno that's touring to promote their new album, "When the Silver's Gone," which was recorded at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City. The five members make music with horns, banjo, accordion, chains and a well-placed bucket. Their sound is influenced by the likes of Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Radiohead and Wilco.
