130 YEARS AGO

Assault and battery: Justice Cary had an assault and battery case. The accused was a Confuscian named Ah Yum. The battered party was from the Orient. The case was against Ah Yum, who got a $15 fine or seven and one-half days alternative sentence which the latter he received with some back talk. For the latter an additional term was given but the merciful Judge relented. Ah Yum will be away from the public gaze for a week.

120 YEARS AGO

A Piute boy at Soda Springs found some powder and thought it was grease. He put it in a can and placed it on the fire, it exploded throwing him fifteen feet and coming very near entering the happy hunting ground.

70 YEARS AGO

1941 Nevada Day events: Covered Wagon Parade (220 to 250 entries), combined band concert, all-American baby show, historical pageant at high school stadium, Indian ceremonials, old-fashioned fireworks, 1864 Ball at the Civil Auditorium (now the Children's Museum).

50 YEARS AGO

Sharon Gold: Sharon Gold enters the Miss Carson City contest. She is sponsored by the Carson City Lions and will use twirling as her talent in the competition. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Gold.

20 YEARS AGO

Photo caption: The construction in front of the Carson City Safeway is a $3,000,000 expansion project taking the facility from 25,000 to 45,000 square feet, according to store manager Marvin Johnson. The new store will include a pharmacy, deli, fresh fish market, a floral shop and a Chinese food take-out shop.

10 YEARS AGO

The Carson high girls and boys cross country teams beat Douglas High in a dual meet at Western Nevada Community College. Shanna Sparks won the girls meet for Carson in 22 minutes, 12 seconds, followed by teammates Cassia Roth, Sheena Banaldi, Ali Marson and Megan Zahnter.
