Seminar onretirement strategies begins Thursday

Cornerstone Retirement will host a free financial and retirement planning seminar at 5 p.m. on April 5 and 12 at Glen Eagle's Restaurant in Carson City.

Chris Abts, president and founder of Cornerstone Retirement, will lead the 90-minute seminar, followed by a complimentary dinner. Topics will include: the recent traps for the new estate tax exemption, financial and estate spousal protection, protecting assets from creditors, generating income to benefit the individual and spouse throughout retirement and tactics to ensure that both husband and wife are able to assume responsibility for retirement finances.

Donate old eyeglasses

Lion's Club International and Healthy Communities Coalition are sponsoring an eyeglass drive.

Give the gift of sight by donating old eyeglasses so that others may see the world more clearly. Glasses can be dropped off at any school in Dayton or Fernley.

Children's Museum offers 2-day egg hunt

An Easter egg hunt will be offered for youngsters from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. April 6 and 7 at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St.

Children who find eggs can bring them to the front desk for a prize.

Photo club to hear Wellington couple

The Douglas County photography club meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church at 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Speakers are Gary and Terri Butler of Wellington, who photograph Western life such as people, wildlife and landscapes. They were presenters at this February's "Shooting the West" in Winnemucca. They have been featured in Range Magazine.

High Sierra Flycasters to meet

Anyone who would like to know more about flycasting is invited to the next High Sierra Flycasters meeting at 7:15 p.m. April 11 at the Elk's Lodge, 127 Kimmerling Road in Gardnerville. Socializing starts at 6:30 p.m.

The group meets once a month and covers a wide range of fly fishing topics, including where to go and what to use.

This month's meeting features Greg Vinci, a noted regional fly fishing writer and photographer who has published articles in Fly Fisherman, Northwest and Southwest Fly Fishing, and other periodicals. His topic will be "Fishing the Eastern Sierra."

CTRH to hold rummage sale

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 13 and from 8 a.m.-noon April 14 at the Eagles Lodge, 1380 E. 5th St.

Those who would like to donate items for the sale may take them to the lodge April 11 and 12. Auxiliary members will be there to accept donations. No large appliances, computers or exercise equipment can be accepte.

There will be many great bargains and all proceeds of the sale will benefit the auxiliary in support of the regional medical center, nursing scholarships and regional healthcare needs.

Misfits Theater Group to perform 'Sin, Sex & the CIA'

The Misfits Theater Group of Dayton will perform an action-comedy production in April, "Sin, Sex & the CIA."

The production is a complex farce about the antics of a CIA agent on his first field assignment, and a U.S. under secretary who are attempting negotiations with a small island.

Directed by Gail Gundersen, the play by Michael Parker and Susan Parker, is being performed by the Misfits through special arrangements with Samuel French, Inc. It introduces Cindy Pardini in her acting debut as Ranger Don, and is produced with the help of the usual Misfits characters.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. April 13, 14, 20 and 21 at the Odeon Hall, 65 Pike Street in Old Town Dayton. Tickets are $10. For reservations, call Carol Bauer at 775-246-9622.

Ladies' Nightat Deana's

Make your own spring poetry art piece, and enjoy wine and cheese in a working artist's studio.

The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 19 at 108 A W. Fourth St.

Participants will be surrounded by art while they create a treasure of their own. Join each month for a new creative class and/or reserve a night for your own group.

In this class, participants will use their creative energy to create original poetry within an abstract painting suitable for framing. All skill levels are welcome, even those who have never painted or created poetry.

Cost is $40 per person.

'Champagne & Shoes'

Soroptimist International of Carson City will offer its annual Ladies Night Out from 6-8 p.m. April 20 in the Nevada Room at the Governor's Mansion on Mountain Street.

Participants are invited to the "Razzle Dazzle 'Em Shoe Contest" as a contestant or enthusiastic judge. They may wear their favorite new, used or creatively decorated shoes. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Casual Shoes, Boots, Elegant Shoes and "Gaga Outrageous" Shoes, as well as the Best Ensemble.

Ticket price is $35 per person, which includes champagne and gourmet hors d'ouevres.

'Hats Off to Spring' coming in April

Carson Valley's Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood will sponsor a fundraiser and women's luncheon, "Hats Off to Spring," at 11 a.m. April 21 at Antoci's Supper Club at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite springtime hat.

The benefit will include a silent auction, raffle, bake sale and bazaar.

-- Entree choices include stuffed roast pork loin, salmon or vegetarian ravioli. A salad, dessert, bread and beverage are included.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its fifth-annual Swing Into Spring dinner-dance gala and "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest on April 28 at the Carson City Nugget.

No-host cocktails are at 6 p.m., celebrity dancers' contest at 6:30 p.m., sit-down dinner at 7 p.m., and dancing to a variety of DJ music at 8 p.m.

Requested attire is formal or semi-formal.
