130 YEARS AGO

Yesterday the County Commissioners put workers to tearing down the porch of the county building. The present structure for years has been a disgrace to the city. Strangers have asked repeatedly what the "ancient ruin" was used for. Soon the venerable structure will assume a more youthful aspect, and our vanity in the future will be protected against rude shocks.

100 YEARS AGO

John Muller, the night watchman at the Fallon sugar plant, drowned in the Government irrigation canal recently. He went from town to the factory under the influence Thursday night. His overcoat and cane were found near the floating bridge, which he used to go to work.

70 YEARS AGO

Chairman A. Pozzi of the local selective service board announced that registration of men between the ages of 45 and 62 years of age will be held April 27. Every male citizen and every male alien who had attained his 45th birthday as of February 15 will be required to present himself.

50 YEARS AGO

A skull shattered by a bullet was found in the desert some 30 miles from Las Vegas. Sheriff's detectives today returned to the desolate area to determine the identity of the victim. Two servicemen from Lake Mead base found the skull as they were hiking in the area.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada Legislators may consider raising gaming taxes because some gaming companies are expanding to other states. Gov. Miller expressed opposition to the idea.

10 YEARS AGO

Nine-year-old Cethe Autumn Choux of Carson City belts out the Star Spangled Banner at Champion Speedway's opening day races.
