130 YEARS AGO

Ill fated finders: Colonel Storey (Storey County) was killed in battle by the Pyramid Lake Indians. Billy Farrell who struck Meadow Lake died a victim of remorse in one of the leading hospitals and his grave lies side of that of Doughnut Bill in the Lone Mountain Cemetery 1868. Eureka Mills burn: A $100,000 fire occurred on the Carson River. Before the watchman could get help the entire building was in flames. Workers were able to save the home of Supt. Woodbury. Sixty men are thrown out of employment. Owned by the Comstock Mill & Mining Company - best and largest on the river.

70 YEARS AGO

Installment buying rules: President Roosevelt's inflation-control program to discourage credit and installment buying will be implemented by more restrictive credit rules.

50 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: "Homes, Carson City southwest 3 bedrooms, fireplaces, paneled walls, built in kitchens, with breakfast nook, Crain Street. $16,300. No down to vets. Reliance corporation."

30 YEARS AGO

President Reagan spoke at the 1982 World Fair and said that this country would never again be held hostage by a foreign oil cartel.

10 YEARS AGO

Nintendo is hiring 50 people to play video games for $100 a day all summer long. Members of the "Nintendo Street Team" will earn their pay by showcasing the Nintendo GameCube and handheld Game Boy systems at concerts, malls and fairs.
