Highway 395 south in Douglas Co. flooded

Motorists should avoid Highway 395 south near Ray May Way.

Multiple reports of impassable flooding and mudslides came in at about 2:45 p.m. today.

First-responders on scene reported deep flooding from strong rainfall and trees and boulders in the roadway, prompting closure of both lanes.

The Nevada Department of Transportation has equipment onscene and is clearing the highway.

A dense thundercell is still moving over the area. Hillsides burned in the Ray May Fire of 2011 are especially prone to erosion.

The National Weather Service issued a small stream flood advisory at 3:23 p.m. for Douglas County. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain between Carson and Tioga passes. About an inch of rainfall has fallen in the past 1-2 hours. The advisory is in effect until 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The thunderstorm that inundated Pine View Estates is moving north toward Carson City at about 5 mph. Heavy rain and lightning are associated with the storm which is reportedly dumping an inch of rain an hour.

Minor rock slides are possible. Forecasters warn drivers to slow down and turn on their headlines if they run into heavy rain.
