A distributor of allergy-relief products ranging from specialized bedding and sophisticated air-filtration systems to simple face masks has leased space for a 25,000-square-foot distribution center at 1021 E. Glendale Ave.

Allergy Be Gone of Edison, N.J., selected Sparks for the distribution center because of northern Nevada's central location to the 11 western states, said Tom Miller of Miller Industrial Properties, which advised the company on its search for a site in the region.

Miller said Nevada's business climate also was a factor in the company's decision.

Allergy Be Gone initially will employ about three people, but it projects that its staff in Sparks could grow to 15 within five years, said Stan Thomas, executive vice president of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada. EDAWN assisted the company as it took a close look at northern Nevada locations.

Thomas said the company's decision to locate in Sparks provides further diversification to the region's Internet fulfillment sector.

Privately held Allergy Be Gone was founded by Allen Barsano, himself an allergy sufferer.

The company operates a retail store in northern New Jersey in addition to its Web site at allergybegone.com.
