San Francisco man arrested on credit card forgery charges

A San Francisco man was arrested Saturday afternoon after a security guard and then Carson City Sheriff's deputies allegedly found a machine used to create or alter credit cards.

Joshua Sims, 41, had been checked at a hotel in the 900 block of South Carson Street. After the hotel unsuccessfully attempted to contact him to see if he wanted to stay another night, a security guard went to the room at 2:30 p.m. He found a machine that appeared to him to be used for making credit cards, according to the police report.

The first deputy to arrive on scene was able to contact Sims as he was trying to re-rent the room. A machine against one of the walls had a credit card in it with a man's name and what appeared to be a credit card scanner. Another credit card, identical to the first but with a different name, also was allegedly in the room. Against another wall were several computers, along with multiple brand-new items with their tags still on.

Sims told the deputies he had never seen the equipment on the dresser before and that the only item in the room was a red suitcase near the door.

Sims was booked on charges of possession of an incomplete credit card and forgery of a credit card. His bail was set at $10,000.
