Faith & Insight: When God cries

Joy, cheer, hustle and bustle, frantic shopping and long lines, frustration and exhaustion. But it’s all out of love and celebration, because it’s Christmas! In the midst of it all, shots ring out. Over two dozen are killed — mostly children. The contrast of those two scenes is unbearable and incomprehensible. And God cries.I know God cries because He did when here on earth in the form of the One called Jesus. He arrived in Bethany four days after his good friend Lazarus died. As He saw heartbreak, as He heard sobs, God cried. He still does.God cries over violence and bloodshed, pain, misery and famine. He cries when He is rejected and earth does not receive her king.We defy that rejection and sing “Joy to the world, the Lord has come!”• Faith and Insight by Bruce Henderson, Airport Rd.
