Carson City Supervisor Karen Abowd will be honored as the politician of the year in awards presented next month in Reno by the Human Services Network.Area individuals and agencies will be honored at the annual Human Services Awards event on the evening of Jan. 17 at the Peppermill Resort Hotel Casino.Abowd, being honored for leadership in support of human services, joins these other recipients named a month in advance of the event: Agency of the Year, Lyon County School District; Special Recognition Award, Mike Willden, director of Nevada Health and Human Services; Administrator of the Year, Michele Watkins, Central Lyon Youth Corrections; Board member of the Year, Michael Connolly, Care Chest; Staff member of the Year, Janett Massolo, Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention; and the Mike O’Callaghan Humanitarian Award, Diane Ross of The Continuum.“This event shines a light on important work that takes place in our community, often with little recognition,” the network said in disclosing the awards.The event is sponsored this year by NV Energy, Renown and Charles Schwab Bank. Tickets are $40 for HSN members, $50 for non-members and tables of eight for members cost $280 and $360 for non-members.
