Sandoval names UNR professor to Board of Museums and History

Gov. Brian Sandoval has named Alicia Barber, a history professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, to the Nevada Board of Museums and History.Barber, who directs the University of Nevada Oral History Program and teaches courses that include museum studies, will join an 11-member board that meets quarterly.Barber, who also teaches courses on public history and Nevada history, regularly coordinates student internships with area museums and supervises various student projects.She is the author of “Reno’s Big Gamble: Image and Reputation in the Biggest Little City.” She earned her doctorate in American Studies in 2003 from the University of Texas, Austin.The board on which she will serve is funded from revenue collected in the private trust funds accrued from the sale of merchandise, memberships and from donations, not from the state’s general fund.The board supports activities of the Division of Museums and History, and of the State Historic Preservation Office.
