Five student teams have been named finalists for the $50,000 prize in the University of Nevada, Reno, Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition.
Finalists in the competition overseen by the UNR College of Business include:
ElectroVentures Inc., which currently operates an e-commerce site that sells clothing and accessories for music festivals, concerts and raves.
Envirohaven, which manufacturers a self-sustaining, efficiently designed permanent homes that can be built in areas without access to public utilities.
EscaZyme Biochemicals, which manufacturers component chemicals for use in the insect-control industry through a new process discovered by researchers at the UNR's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
The Mental Health Hub, which plans a Web site that will allow access to evidence-based mental health information.
TERRANAMIC, a startup with technology to improve air-quality safety in the mining industry.
The finalists, selected from 24 entries, will make their presentations to judges in late February.
