In the season of New Year's resolutions, Superintendent Richard Stokes will receive his list of goals for 2012 at Tuesday's meeting of the Carson City School Board.
After reviewing at the December board meeting the superintendent's performance on six goals outlined for 2011, the board determined he had exceeded the average on all of them.
Overall, trustees handed him a "superior" ranking.
Last year's goals included: Improving safety in schools, increasing graduation rates, maintaining and improving district security and grounds, maintaining fiscal solvency, attracting and retaining quality staff, and increasing communication between the district and the public.
Members of the board ranked him in each of the categories using a scale of "superior," "very satisfactory," "satisfactory" or "unsatisfactory."
Trustee Ron Swirczek, who was elected to the board in November, said he was confused by the ranking system.
Having not been on the board at the time the goals were set, he said, he wasn't sure how to rank the superintendent's progress on them. He asked that the new goals be set in more measurable terms.
Also at the meeting, new board officers will be elected. Currently, Joanna Wilson serves as president. Steve Reynolds in the vice president and Lynette Conrad the clerk.
