130 YEARS AGO

William W. Barnes, formerly publisher of the Mammoth City Herald shot L. E. Tubbs, a lawyer of Benton, in the left leg. The wound is not dangerous. Barnes fired two shots, one of which was aimed at Tubb's heart. Tubbs states the cause was jealousy of Barne's wife, which he says was without foundation.

100 YEARS AGO

An honor man at the prison farm last night made his escape. The man who has shaken the clay from the farm from his hob-nailed shoes is George Ramsey, sent to the pen for burglary from Washoe County. The thing that is troubling police is how he left the place, he absolutely fell from sight and no trace picked up.

70 YEARS AGO

Miss Mildred Bray, superintendent of public instruction for Nevada, was the speaker at Lions Club today. Pupils in Nevada will be called upon to make about 500 model airplanes to educate the people to recognize the various types of aircraft, currently used in Britain. George Meyers was chosen to levy and collect fines in the absence of the club's tail twister, Archie Pozzi.

50 YEARS AGO

Common sense should tell motorists to respect Old Man Winter and the added hazards he throws during the winter says the director of the Department of Motor Vehicles. He suggests drivers use chains or they may get stuck.

20 YEARS AGO

Former Carson City High School Vice Principal Norman Scoggins files for election to school board from District 2.

A fixture at the corner of Taylor and C Streets in Virginia City is getting a face lift. The Crystal Bar now has a new hardwood floor, heating and electrical systems.
