Breeden named president of American Congress of ob-gyns

Dr. James T. Breeden, of Carson City, became the 63rd president of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists earlier this year.

Breeden was sworn in during the presidential inauguration and convocation at the annual conference of ob-gyns in San Diego, Calif.

Before announcing the focus of his presidential initiatives, Breeden discussed how ACOG remains "dedicated to our founding mission: the advancement of women's health through excellence in education, practice, research, and advocacy with patient safety integral to these goals."

Breeden is president of the Carson Medical Group, where he has practiced ob-gyn for 35 years and for the past eight years has specialized in women's office care and gynecologic surgery.

He has held a variety of positions at the Carson Tahoe Hospital, where he was chief of staff, a 10-year member of the executive board, and chair of the department of ob-gyn. He is also a founding partner, officer, and director of Sierra Surgery Hospital.

Schreiber completes Farmers career agent course

James Schreiber, Farmers Insurance agent in Carson City, has completed the career agents course at the University of Farmers training facility in Agoura Hills, Calif.

"James completed the five-day Career Agents Course, which is clearly defined and targeted to enhance the professional skills of Farmers' agents," explained Annette Thompson, senior vice president of Farmers. "The course gives an agent the ability to learn how to successfully understand the needs of Farmers' customers and help them choose the right insurance to meet their needs," Thompson added. "Using professional facilitators and a curriculum that maximizes training effectiveness, this course is a roadmap to success for every agent."

Michele Cowee named outstanding dietitian

Registered Dietitian Michele Cowee from Sierra Dietetics has been acknowledged as Nevada's Outstanding Dietitian of the Year. This award is given by the Nevada Dietetic Association and affiliated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It recognizes a NDA member who has made an outstanding contribution toward the advancement of the dietetic profession in the state of Nevada.

Cowee has been a member of the Carson Area Wellness Association since 2005 where she is currently the vice-chair of that association.

Hampton Inn & Suites honored

Carson City's Hampton Inn & Suites has won a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award, which honors hospitality excellence and is given only to establishments that consistently garner outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. Only about 10 percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive the award.

To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the number of reviews received within the last 12 months.

Specline wins contract

Specline of Carson City won a contract worth $562,472 to provide bearing sleeves to the Defense Logistics Agency for use in the Hercules C-130 aircraft.

Clients return to Signature

Signature Landscapes has won contracts for landscape maintenance at Carson Medical Center and Meadowood Mall.

The Reno landscaping company served Carson Medical Center before the center moved its landscaping service in-house in 2008. The service now is moving back to Signature.

The company also was the landscape contractor at Meadowood Mall from 2002 to 2009.

State revokes two licenses

Nevada State Contractors Board has revoked the licenses of two contractors in northern Nevada.

The license of American Design & Construction Company, Inc., of Reno was revoked after the board found the company diverted funds, failed to pay money it owed, violated regulations concerning liens and committed several other violations.

The company also was fined $11,500 and ordered to pay investigative costs.

The license of Willis Electric Inc. of Carson City was revoked after the board found that the company failed to pay money it owed, failed to keep proper insurance in place and failed to establish financial responsibility.

Willis Electric was fined $2,250 and ordered to pay investigative costs.
