The renewable energy program at the University of Nevada, Reno, will be named in honor of Jeff Ceccarelli, longtime NV Energy executive and an alumnus of the school.
Ceccarelli retires from NV Energy this month. He is the company's senior vice president for energy supply.
The initiative to be known as The Jeffrey L. Ceccarelli NV Energy Renewable Energy Program includes teaching and research programs across the university.
Among them are renewable energy laboratory at the Redfield Campus and an interdisciplinary minor in renewable energy lead by the College of Engineering with support from NV Energy.
Ceccarelli started work at Sierra Pacific Power, the predecessor company to NV Energy, as an entry-level engineer after graduation from UNR in 1976.
A member of the College of Engineering Advisory Board Ceccarelli was honored in 2009 as the Nevada Alumni Association's Alumnus of the Year.
