Eagle Scout

Scott Johnson received his Eagle Scout Award at Troop 341's Court of Honor which was held at Mill's Park on June 25.

To achieve the Eagle Rank, a Boy Scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and complete a leadership project that benefits the community. Scott's project was to install fencing around large cottonwood trees along the Walker River at the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area near Yerington. The fencing was to prevent beavers from chewing through the tree bark and killing the trees. The cottonwood trees are a vital part of the river's ecosystem and provide needed shade and shelter for other wildlife.

Scott is the 54th scout to receive the Eagle Rank from Troop 341. Troop 341 is celebrating its' 30th anniversary this year and meets Mondays at Bethlehem Lutheran School.
