James Faulds has been named state geologist and director of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Faulds succeeds Jonathan Price, who is retiring at the end of June.

Faulds has been with the Bureau of Mines and Geology since 1997. He is the current president of the Nevada Petroleum Society.

Faulds held post-doctoral positions at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the University of Southern California. Faulds received his bachelor's degree at the University of Montana, his master's degree at the University of Arizona and his doctorate at the University of New Mexico.
