Planning for Nevada's 150th birthday celebration starts Friday with a meeting in the Las Vegas museum at Springs Preserve.
Gov. Brian Sandoval said he has named seven people to work with staff during the next few months to raise money and plan a full year series of events to commemorate Nevada's admission to statehood. He said those events will begin on Nevada Day 2013 and conclude Oct. 31, 2014, - 150 years to the day after statehood.
Sandoval named consultant Neena Laxalt, newspaper editor Bob Brown, State Sen. Mike McGinness, Ted Olivas of the city of Las Vegas, Bud Hicks of the McDonald Carano Wilson law firm, Andy Kirk of the UNLV History Department and Lori Nelson of Station Casinos to the project.
