A 23-year-old woman was rescued from Ash Canyon Monday night after reportedly sliding down an embankment and injuring her ankle and lower back.

Deputy Bob Guimont, with the Carson City Sheriff's Office, said she was found about half-a-mile southwest of the water towers on the hiking area west of Carson City. She was conscious and able to call 911, he said. The GPS in her cell phone led to her being located.

Care Flight was alerted and put on stand-by, but ultimately not needed.

Guimont didn't know of the extent of her injuries and said she was taken to Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

She was carried out by members of the Carson City Fire Department until they reached terrain accessible by an all-terrain vehicle, Guimont said. He said they did "an outstanding job" getting her out of the rough terrain.
