Southwest Gas hosting free workshop in June

Southwest Gas will host a free workshop on its procurement opportunities for minority, women and disabled veteran business enterprises from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at its 400 Eagle Lane office.

"This is an excellent opportunity for businesses to learn about the different products and services we purchase and how they can grow their customer base," said Valeries Bailey of Southwest's Supplier Diversity department.

JobConnect offers employment workshops

Carson City JobConnect will offer four classes on life skills and employment preparation beginning June 12 through June 14.

There will be one class a day and each will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Carson JobConnect Office, 1929 N. Carson St.

Day one will focus on life skills; day two is how to apply marketing principles when selling your abilities and experience to an employer; day three on resume building; and day four on interview skills.

Dutch Bros. donates $174K to MDA

Dutch Bros. Coffee stores donated $174,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association following its annual company-wide fundraiser, MDA Day on May 4.

"We are so thankful for the contributions of our amazing customers and their support of a cause that means so much to all of us at Dutch Bros.," said company co-founder and Dane's younger brother, Travis Boersma. "We once again surpassed our fundraising goal, and are so proud of our friends, family and the franchisees for showing their support of this important cause. Mahe named partner at Allison MacKenzie Law Firm

Allison MacKenzie Law Firm has promoted attorney Jennifer Mahe to partner. Mahe will continue to focus her practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, real estate, water rights, business law and bankruptcy.

She joined Allison MacKenzie Law Firm as an associate in 2006.

Mahr earned a bachelor of arts with distinction in psychology from University of Nevada in 2002. Goeschl named Direct Support Professional of the Year

The American Network of Community Options and Resources recognized Jasmine Goeschl of Dungarvin in Carson City as the 2012 Direct Support Professional of the Year for Nevada.

"Dungarvin is proud of Jasmine's recognition. This honor is a reflection of Jasmine's commitment to supporting people with disabilities and the quality of services provided by Dungarvin," said Kimberly Carter, office coordinator.

Direct Support Professionals - often referred to as caregivers, personal assistants and direct care or homecare aide - provide daily support services for millions of Americans with disabilities. Thanks to DSPs, people with disabilities are able to live fulfilling and independent lives and be active participants in their communities.

Jasmine Goeschl depicts every example of a positive, outgoing individual. Jasmine not only has the patience beyond most, she truly cares about her position with the individuals she supports.

As a Day Program Coordinator, Goeschl faces challenges with the many and various disabilities of the individuals she serves.

Langson Energy wins bronze in Edison Awards

Langson Energy of Carson City won a bronze award for green implementation in The Edison Awards.

The awards recognize innovation in development of new products and services.

Langson Energy and its founder, Richard Langson, have developed a technology to generate power using the waste heat that results when the pressure in natural gas transmission lines is stepped down for urban lines.
