Sheriff investigating 'bizarre' death

The death of a 28-year-old Carson City woman is being investigated after she was found dead on Nov. 1.

Meaghan Brittany Antle-Peart, 28, had been dead for up to two days before her husband came home and called for emergency responders at 7:20 p.m. Nov. 1, according to the preliminary autopsy.

The cause of death is pending a toxicology report and the Carson City Sheriff's Office is still investigating the death, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's officials said Antle-Peart had been discharged from the hospital on the previous Tuesday.

Although Antle-Peart's husband left on Tuesday and did not see her alive again, her mother-in-law, 56, who owns the residence, was with her and told investigators she thought Antle-Peart was fatigued and let her sleep from Tuesday until Thursday when she went to work, according to the sheriff's office.

Antle-Peart had over 60 injection sites, or marks where a needle had been used to inject, were present on her stomach and ankles, according to the sheriff's office.

By the time Antle-Peart was discovered as deceased, rigor mortis had already come and gone. Rigor mortis, or the stiffening of the human body after death, starts after three or four hours, hits its peak at 12 hours after death and then begins to dissipate.

The mother-in-law told investigators she slept in the same bed as Antle-Peart on Tuesday and Wednesday because she thought Antle-Peart was still alive, according to the sheriff's office.

"It's a bizarre suspicious death, for it not to be reported for up to 48 hours," Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Sheriff's officials said multiple prescriptions belonging to Antle-Peart were found in the home.
