The Bureau of Land Management Carson City District will begin selling Christmas tree cutting permits Thursday for $5.The permits allow the cutting of pinyon pine or juniper trees on designated BLM lands primarily in the Pinenut Mountains between Carson City and Yerington, the Clan Alpine and Desatoya mountains east of Fallon and the Excelsior Mountains southeast of Hawthorne. Maps and directions are available with permit purchase.There is no limit to the number of permits that may be purchased. Collection of trees for resale requires a special permit.Permits may be purchased at the following locations: BLM Carson City, 5665 Morgan Mill Road; Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, 1477 U.S. Highway 395 N., Suite A, in Gardnerville; BLM Nevada State Office, 1340 Financial Blvd. in Reno; Community Action Center, 924 Fifth St. in Hawthorne; UNR Cooperative Extension Office, 111 Sheckler Road in Fallon; Middlegate Station 42500 Highway 50, 48 miles east of Fallon and Cold Springs Station, 52500 Highway 50, 62 miles east of Fallon.The Reno and Carson City BLM offices accept credit cards, cash, and checks; other locations only accept cash or checks made payable to the BLM.Tree cutters should be prepared with warm clothing, first aid kit, extra food and water, heavy rope or chain, shovel and tire chains, in the event of bad road conditions or inclement weather.
