Round Mountain Gold Corp., Newmont Mining Corp. and Coeur Rochester Inc. have been recognized by state and federal agencies for excellence in mine reclamation.
The Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards are sponsored by the Nevada Division of Minerals, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Nevada Department of Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Forest Service.
Honored projects this year included:
Round Mountain Gold, a joint venture of Kinross Gold Corp. and Barrick Gold Corp., was recognized for its work at the Round Mountain Mine in Nye County. Bat gates were installed in historic mine workings in nearby Jefferson Canyon to provide long-term habitat protection and to ensure public safety.
Newmont was recognized for its work at the Twin Creeks Mine in Humboldt County. The Pinon Tailings Facility is one of the first tailings facilities in the state to achieve all closure and reclamation milestones.
Coeur Rochester was honored for its work at Rochester Mine in Pershing County. Coeur implemented wildlife protective measures that exceeded requirements and also voluntarily constructed an off-site big game water feature to attract wildlife away from active mining areas.
