Statewide online voter registration has dramatically increased the number of new voters.
Secretary of State Ross Miller said in just the first week since the system went live statewide and the publicity campaign started Sept. 17, new registrations averaged 550 a day. He said that is double the average during the first 16 days of September.
Miller said statewide online registration is now available for the first time in a presidential election.
He said there are an estimated 623,000 Nevadans eligible who are not yet registered to vote. He said his office is using a public relations campaign to get the word out.
"My office is making it easier than ever for eligible voters in Nevada to register to vote before Oct. 6," he said.
That is the deadline for online or by mail registration.
After Oct. 6, those who want to vote Nov. 6 will have to go to their county voter registrar's office. They can do that through Oct. 16.
To register, citizens need to be at least 18 by election day and have a Nevada DMV issued drivers' license or ID card.
