Foundation raises $50,000 for cancer patients

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation raised more than $50,000 for its second annual HopeFest fundraiser.The organization topped last year’s total of $37,000 and like last year, all of the proceeds go toward local cancer patients seeking treatment in Carson City.The foundation is the only nonprofit organization focused on helping Carson area cancer patients with living expenses.“An unexpected cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, especially when it comes with unplanned expenses, including insurance co-pays, expensive medications and extra everyday living expenses,” said Kitty McKay, development officer for the CTH Foundation. “HopeFest was created for these patients and I am so proud to be part of such a generous community that sees this need and responds with enthusiasm and compassion.”HopeFest featured an outdoor concert by a nationally recognized a capella group named Mo5aic and a local band called The Cutters. Locally brewed beer, a barbecue, and raffle prizes that included the choice of a new car or $10,000.Arlene Relko won the raffle and chose the $10,000 prize.In addition to Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota Scion, which donated the vehicle, organizers thanked sponsors were Capital Ford and Hyundai, Mo5aic, Willis and Hudson insurance groups, Firkin & Fox and High Sierra restaurants, Capital Beverage, News Channel 4, Holland & Hart, U.S. Foodservice, Tahoe Creamery, Pepsico and ESI Security Services.
