News has reached here by telegraph that while General Canby and the three Peace Commissioners, Thomas, Meacham and Roseborough were holding a parley with the Modocs, the Indians suddenly fell upon them and murdered them all. Farewell this mockery of an Indian peace.

130 YEARS AGO

The tide of immigration is a flood. An army is now moving westward from older states, greater in numbers than any that has preceded it. The Gazette says fourteen carloads have passed Reno in the last 36 hours. In one train there were more than 500 persons.

100 YEARS AGO

There now seems to be no question that continuance of deep mining and pumping on the Comstock will again begin. After weeks of bickering and wrangling, parties have come to an understanding. Assays at the 2,500-foot level are at $125 per ton.

70 YEARS AGO

At the regular meeting of the Carson City 20-30 Club, President Robert Smith announced that the annual Easter egg hunt has been abandoned for this year because of war conditions. Egg rolling at the White House will also be skipped this year.

50 YEARS AGO

W.E. (Bill) Schultz will become the president of the Rotary Club of Carson City. He will succeed attorney William C. Crowell.

20 YEARS AGO

It was a night of highs and lows at Silver State Raceway. There was a moment of silence for Winston Cup Champion Alan Kulwicki and there was the thrill of Dave Lester again setting yet another track record.
