Forty-two finalists have been chosen for the annual Best Places to Work competition, and winners will be announced at a late-April event to celebrate the winners in four categories.
Twenty-three firms were chosen as finalists in the small business category (15 to 50 employees). Businesses nominated include a general contractor, a regional ski resort, a dentist office, a bank and an accountancy firm, among others.
Nine firms were nominated in the medium-sized business category of 51 to 150 employees. Firms include a credit union, insurance agency, law firm, an Internet fulfillment center and a dietary supplement manufacturer. In the large-business category of firms with 151 to 700 employees, eight regional businesses will vie for first place. Firms include a casino, a hotel, two software businesses, a hospital and a military defense contractor.
Two firms were entered into the extra-large category of more than 700 employees.
Winners will be honored April 25 at the Best Places to Work awards ceremony at the Peppermill Resort Hotel.
Winners will be announced April 26 in the Daily Update of Northern Nevada Business Weekly and also will be highlighted in an upcoming special publication in Northern Nevada Business Weekly on May 13.
The Best Places to Work initiative recognizes employers that have developed strong workplace relations with employees and have fostered a positive work environment. More than 40 communities across the nation participate in the program.
