Dana Ryan wants businesspeople to get a close-up look at the workplace skills taught by the Washoe County School District’s Department of Signature Academies and Career/Technical Education.
In fact, Ryan hopes that some of them will be sufficiently impressed that they’ll volunteer to help the department shape its programs to meet the current needs of employers.
And if some of them wanted to provide job-shadow or internship opportunities for students, so much the better.
Ryan, director of Signatures and Career/Technical Education, will join with student and staff to host visitors from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Academy of Arts Careers & Technology. It’s at 380 Edison Way.
Students learn skills ranging from business and finance to culinary and hospitality. (The culinary students operate a bakery and a restaurant at the academy.)
They’ll be showcasing their work and visiting about their experiences in the courses that will lead some to college for additional training after graduation while others will move directly into the workforce.
