In the midst of a two-year roll that’s doubling the size of its business, Sparks-based ITS Logistics is expanding into an additional 88,000 square feet of distribution space.
The additional space next door to the company’s headquarters at 620 Spice Island Drive is needed to handle three new large distribution accounts, says Jeff Lynch, president and chief executive of the company.
“It’s all new business to the market,” he says.
With the new lease, ITS Logistics now operates in about 375,000 square feet of space at its Spice Island campus and at a nearby building on Purina Way.
Lynch, who co-founded ITS Logistics with Darryl Bader and Dan Allen in 2000, says the new business comes as ITS expects its revenues this year to grow at a 65-percent clip.
That comes on the heels of 35 percent growth last year. The growth reflects more aggressive sales by the company as well internal growth of the customers that rely on ITS for third-party logistics services.
“We’ve been hiring like crazy,” says Lynch. ITS has added about 75 jobs in the first seven months of this year.
The company’s staff of approximately 250 includes more than a dozen who work in ITS Brokerage, a fast-growing unit headed by Mike Crawford, a one-time football star at the University of Nevada, Reno, who found a new calling in the sales of transportation and warehousing services.
The company also operates a subsidiary in Southern California, and it’s scouting the possibility of an operation at the Port of Oakland as well, Lynch says.
With the additional distribution space, as well as purchases of tractors and trailers for its trucking operation, ITS expects to capital spending this year to run about $9 million.
Of that, about half will be spent with local companies, Lynch says.
