The members of the Young American Company came down from the flume fire with the Currys on Sunday afternoon. At the Curry’s engine house, they were entertained regally under Capt. Reese with cheese, crackers, butter and a ten gallon keg of beer. Capt. Reese felt bound to restrain their hilarity by pointing out the number of church spires on the horizon and the sanctity of the place they were in.

Yesterday afternoon a man from Reno named Davis was driving out in a buggy with a woman when he attempted to round a corner opposite the school at full speed. The buggy ran along a few yards on two wheels and then capsized. The buggy, owned by Benton, was badly shattered.

100 years ago

This morning, state police and a few Indian trailers and several guards from the prison were out hustling following the escape of Thomas Brady, a hard boiled egg from the prison who took French leave during the night. Brady is tattooed from head to heels and would make a splendid moving picture in himself.

A new paint job in the state capitol building is being completed after two weeks work on both first and second stories. The job, one of the capitol’s occasional cleanups, is being done through a maintenance tax.

The number of Ormsby County residents collecting unemployment benefits dropped from 100 to 51 between May 31 and June 30. Total benefits paid by the state to the county fell from $15,620 to $7,189.

The opening of High Sierra Sports was announced recently by veteran gliding expert Gary Wood. The business offers windsurfing, hang gliding, ultralight aircraft, parasailing, water skiing, and scuba diving sales, service, rentals and lessons.
