Creditable. The finest and most extensive fence in Carson is that which runs along the street 500 feet and bounds Miss Clapp’s premises in front. The grounds are highly improved with garden, fruit trees and ornamental clover tended by a hired gardener. It is one of the most pleasant of the up-town sights.

130 years ago

Yesterday morning Daniel Wilkens, who lives near the Voltaire Mill, heard a commotion in his hen roost. Suspecting coyotes, he went out armed with a club and a candle. Having located the animal, he clubbed it until dead. He called his wife who came out with a light and he discovered he had killed a full-sized Numidian Lion which had escaped from the Robinson Circus.

100 years ago

Next Monday bids will be opened for the extension of the Capitol. It is thought bids will be pretty close, as work in Reno is pretty slow this summer. The reconstruction will extend the building east and west, adding a break to the straight line.

70 years ago

A pig of crude magnesium metal and one bar or billet of refined magnesium cast from the initial run of the Nevada Basic Magnesium mine near Las Vegas was presented today to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

Carson City detectives have found new quarters in a bank building suite pending the completion of repairs to their basement headquarters.
