The year’s major fundraiser for Empowered Lives through the Cancer Journey, which is housed at the Sierra Nevada Cancer Center, is set 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the F Street Station in Virginia City.
The pre-Halloween event will feature drinks, music, a train ride and a silent raffle and is for ages 21 and older.
Tickets cost $55 per person or $100 per couple. Costumes are encouraged, and special room rates are available. Profits help local cancer patients and their caregivers.

Trains will head to VC pumpkin patch
V&T Railroad trains will head to the Virginia City Pumpkin Patch this fall.
Trips include a cup of miner’s coffee, a Cornish pastry, apple doughnuts and children’s face painting. Rides cost $15 for adults, and $10 for ages 5 to 12, which includes one pumpkin per passenger. Trains depart at 11:30 a.m., and 3 p.m. Riders are asked to arrive 15 minutes before departure.

Costumes encouraged on Halloween train
A Halloween night trip to Virginia City aboard the V&T Railroad trains is planned, and participants are urged to dress in costume.
There will be candy onboard. Miner’s coffee, cider and Halloween treats will be sold.
Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for ages 5-12. Trains depart at 4, 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Riders are asked to arrive 15 minutes before departure.
Christmas-themed rides begin Nov. 29
The V&T Railroad will host Christmas train rides on 100-year-old vintage decorated rail coaches Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 7-8 and 14-15, departing from the F Street Station in Virginia City at noon and 2 p.m. each day.
The North Pole “Candy Cane Sisters” will record children’s wishes for Santa’s deliveries while holiday sing-alongs are led by a mystery guest. Riders are advised to wear warm clothes.
