RENO — Authorities say a 4.2-magnitude earthquake that jolted the Truckee Meadows near Reno rattled nerves but caused no injuries and no major damage.

An employee a store in Spanish Springs tells the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://on.rgj.com/1dLEXbh ) the quake sounded like a large truck passing and made store shelves sway, but nothing fell.

The University of Nevada, Reno, earthquake lab says the quake struck at 5:51 p.m. Monday about 7.5 miles northeast of Sun Valley.

It was felt almost 90 miles to the west in Nevada City, Calif.

Ken Smith at the lab says the quake was the largest of several in the same location over the past week.

Washoe County Emergency Manager Aaron Kenneston calls the temblor the largest in the region since a swarm near Verdi and Mogul in 2008.
