Gourmelt owners plan traditional restaurant location

Haley Wood and Jessie Watnes want to stay warm.

The duo, owners of the Gourmelt food truck that specializes in grilled-cheese sandwiches, plan to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Reno’s Midtown District next spring.

The eatery dubbed “Two Chicks” will focus on egg products in its breakfast and lunch menu. The 1,250-square-foot restaurant will be at 752 S. Virginia St.

Wood says the Gourmelt owners set their sights on a traditional location from the time they launched the food truck not quite three years ago.

“You can’t retire out of a food truck,” she says, noting that work in the food truck is physically demanding — not to mention cold during the winter.

Watnes and Wood expect to run Gourmelt on a three- or four-day weekly schedule after the opening of Two Chicks, and Gourmelt also will be appearing at street festivals.

Two Chicks, scheduled for opening in March or April, will employ about 10.
