Geothermal projects honored

Three northern Nevada projects were among the winners of the 2013 GEA Honors awarded by the Geothermal Energy Association last week.

Steamboat Hot Springs Healing Center at the south edge of Reno was recognized for its work toward elimination of the need for traditional power. The center offers alternative therapies based solely on geothermal waters and provides a museum and library to educate the public about geothermal energy.

Ormat Technologies Inc. of Reno was recognized for the expected completion of the new Don A. Campbell (formerly named Wild Rose) geothermal power plant in Mineral County. It will produce 16 megawatts of electricity.

Gradient Resources of Reno was recognized for arranging a $155 million bank loan to finance the first phase of its Patua Geothermal Project between Fernley and Fallon. The financing package was the first bank loan for a geothermal project to close in the United State in almost three years.
