Carson FFA gets $2,500 grant for greenhouse work

Carson High School's Capitol FFA chapter was awarded $2,500 as part of the FFA: Food For All program.

The nationwide program provides grant money to local FFA chapters to support year-long service-learning projects focused on developing and implementing sustainable hunger relief projects.

Capitol FFA helps fight hunger through the Greenhouse Project, growing fresh produce for the needy of Carson City.

The chapter will also provide workshops for 150 elementary students that will teach them how to plant, transplant and care for container gardens. Each elementary student will take home a two-gallon patio tomato plant.-

Elementary students will also learn about worm farming and importance of healthy eating. Students will be able to taste fresh vegetables while visiting the greenhouse.-

The FFA: Food For All grant program is administered by the National FFA Organization, with funding provided in part by Farmers Feeding the World and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
