3 new WNC art galleries on display through March; reception Tuesday

In honor of three new art exhibits opening this month, Western Nevada College will host a reception from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday in the College Gallery in the Bristlecone Building at the main campus. The exhibits will be on display through March 22.The Main Gallery will feature artist Andrea Henkels Heidinger's “Transitions,” a sculpture and multimedia exhibition.According to a news release: Heidinger's work explores the artistic possibilities of the waste she and her family create in everyday activities.The artist, who works in Utah, has a master's degree in fine arts/ sculpture from the University of Idaho. Her work has been shown internationally, including at the Invitational Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.The College Gallery features Lynn Schmidt's “Segments of the Path, a Mini Retrospective.”Her art has roots in Northern Nevada's natural forms. Her most recent work, including “Erractic I,” was inspired by how receding glaciers in the Sierra have affected boulders. She uses a mixed-media process blending watercolor painting and printmaking techniques.
