The engines that drive that economy of the Winnemucca area will talk about their plans in the near-future at a forum this week, and attendees will get a sneak peek, too, at the proposals that will fuel the region's development in the longer-term.
The Second Annual Winnemucca Futures Forum will run from 9 a.m to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Convention Center in Winnemucca.
Pat Gray, chairman of the board of the Humboldt Development Authority, says the event and its 20-minute presentations, followed by 10 minutes of questions, is designed to get out as much information as possible in a single day to the largest number of businesses and individuals.
The Humboldt Development Authority, a nonprofit public-private partnership created by the City of Winnemucca and Humboldt County, sponsors the event.
Among the scheduled presentations:
* Newmont Mining will discuss its operations in the region, including the Carlin Trend, Twin Creeks, Phoenix, Long Canyon, Midas, Sandman, and Buffalo Valley.
* Barrick Gold will review operations, including the Carlin Trend, Gold Strike, Cortez and Turquoise Ridge.
* Allied Nevada Gold will update its $1.2 billion expansion of the Hycroft Mine.
* Goldcorp will discuss exploration that has extended the life of the Marigold Mine by an estimated 11 years.
* Western State Lithium will discuss its plans for the continued development of the Kings Valley Project.
* Oregon Energy LLC will provide an update on development of the Aurora uranium project on the Oregon-Nevada border, just west of McDermitt.
