Senior apartments welcomed to Carson

Mayor Robert Crowell officially welcomed Christina Court, a 40-unit senior apartment complex, to Carson City in ceremonies Wednesday.Crowell noted the senior units at 1800 Russell Way aren't far from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada facility on the same street. “We need to take care of the young and the old,” he said. The mayor was joined by Janice McIntosh, Carson City Senior Center director, Hilary Lopez of the Nevada Housing Division and two representatives of Community Development Inc. (CDI) in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by about 25 people.Representing CDI were Bill Truax, chief development officer, and Homer Ortiz, development analyst. Truax gave credit to Lopez and McIntosh for helping push the project.Truax said Christina Court is CDI's fourth project in Carson City and fifth in the state. The others in the capital city are Autumn Village I and II and Sierra Ridge. Lahontan Springs is in Fernley.Christina Court is billed an affordable option for low-income seniors, according to CDI, and includes a community center as well as comprehensive support services.
