International City Mortgage’s new regional operations center in South Meadows is helping the company headquartered at Orange, Calif., capture market share in northern Nevada and throughout the West, says Cory Hjelmeir, executive vice president.

International City Mortgage brought the new office at 10765 Double R Blvd. into operation in March and has since added 12 positions. The new office is responsible for all aspects of mortgage operations and support, including information technology, human resources, accounting, analytics, production and corporate management.

ICM was founded in 1987 by Kirk Hankla, an Incline Village resident who spurred his team to open an office in northern Nevada. International City Mortgage has roughly 30 branch locations in various Western states for loan origination and processing, but the bulk of its business comes from California and Hawaii, Hjelmeir says.

“What we are doing here is redundant operations — accounting, underwriting, corporate management and marketing,” he says. “Our owner says Nevada is a great spot and convinced me to be a catalyst to get a regional operations center open and hire the right team to really support our growth in Nevada and help support (our work in) the Pacific Northwest.”

Hjelmeir moved from Southern California in Reno to spearhead the new office. International City Mortgage employs more than 200 people company-wide.

“First and foremost, this give us a regional opportunity, and our employees and consumers and customers like to work with a company that is local and committed to their community. We will be giving support regionally and locally and hiring locally — that is the strategy that we will have as we continue to expand our regional footprint.”
