Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has announced $4.5 million in grants to Nevada veteran’s organizations.

The money will go to service organizations including U.S. Vets, Vietnam Veterans of California, the Salvation Army and HELP Social Service organizations. The funding is coming through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program.

He said the organizations will help more than 1,000 veteran families with social services they need, helping to combat veteran homelessness in Nevada, which he termed “completely unacceptable.”

“We must never forget about the nation’s commitment to our heroes and I continue to fight for the benefits and treatment that they deserve,” Reid said in a release.

The U.S. Veterans Initiative will get $1.2 million to help veterans in Clark County. The Vietnam Veterans of California will receive $1.9 million to help veteran households in Northern Nevada. A total of $456,755 will go to the Salvation Army in Clark County and the HELP organization will receive $926,248 in Clark County.
