The man killed in a three-vehicle crash July 18 was identified as Minden resident Kendrick “Rick” P. Schumacker, 53, the manager of the Ironwood Cinemas.

Schumacker was northbound in a Ford Taurus on U.S. Highway 395 when he slowed to turn into the Washoe Tribal Smoke Shop, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

There is no center turn lane at that location on U.S. 395, and Schumacker had to slow down in the travel lane.

He was hit from behind by a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 17-year-old Gardnerville girl. The force of the collision knocked the Taurus into the path of an oncoming 1997 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Dennis M. Hart, 63, of Apple Valley, Calif.

Schumacker was killed at the scene. The three occupants of the two pickups, including Hart’s passenger, Diana J. Hart, 63, were hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to family members, Schumacker is survived by wife Sheila; daughter Destinie; father Harry; siblings Sharon Hance, Ron Schumacker and Shanon Gemignani; and nephew Harlene McEwen.

The 17-year-old’s name was not released because she is a minor.
