A Wisconsin company expects to employ about 25 people when it opens a distribution center at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center this autumn.

Schwabe North America, a distributor of dietary supplements, has leased 70,000 square feet at 2777 USA Parkway.

Mike Devereux, president and chief executive officer of Schwabe North America, said the company headquartered at Green Bay, Wis., selected the Storey County location because it allows efficient shipping to major markets throughout the West.

Western markets, he said, have been among the fastest growing for Schwabe North America and the supplements sector as a whole.

The company currently handles distribution from a 100,000-square-foot facility at its Wisconsin headquarters.

In addition, Devereux said the company was drawn by the availability of skilled distribution workers in the Reno-Sparks area.

Schwabe North America distributes two brands — Nature’s Way and Enzymatic Therapy — through consumer channels. It also distributes the Integrative Therapeutics brand through professional channels.

Stan Thomas, executive vice president of marketing and competitive expansion with the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, worked with Schwabe North America on its expansion plans.

Chris Fairchild and Greg Shutt of Avison Young represented the company in its lease negotiations. The CBRE industrial team in Reno — Eric Bennett, Dan Buhrmann and Gordon Zack — represented the property owner.

The board of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development last month approved tax abatements as an incentive for the company’s decision.
