A curious circumstance. We believe it is a well-established fact that the bodies of persons drowned in Lake Tahoe have never been recovered with the clear cold waters refusing to give up their dead. This circumstance, which at first seems strange, is in fact because the water at the bottom is icy cold and actually arrests decomposition of the dead body, which would cause it to return to the surface.

Mr. Chas. W. Friend, weather observer for Uncle Sam and getting nothing for it, received the following appreciative letter from the Geodetic Coast survey: “Your printed report of the meteorological observations made between 1880-1883. We hope your success thus far attained will be sufficient incentive to you to continue your observations.”

Dayton is having a hard time with the a shortage of mail service and no postmaster. The department requires an examination and the only woman who applied and passed was disqualified on technicalities.

Bones of a giant mammoth which roamed Nevada during the Pleistocene age have been uncovered in a dry wash near Panaca, the head of the state highway department said today. S. M. Wheeler is engaged in restoring them.

A team of water pollution control experts recommended a master utility to carry sewage from the Sierra-locked Lake Tahoe basin in California and Nevada.
