Mr. Hawley of White Rock stopped in Fallon with a band of cattle recently. He had a strange story to tell of his stop at Edward’s Creek, near Mr. Patterson’s ranch. After hunting during the day, he and his helper, and Indian, were taken with cramps and spasms, indicating they had been poisoned. Strychnine in the flower was blamed.

“Leaky Miners.” The public has been caught again by the unprincipled manipulators of the Comstock. The drift is now going at a snail’s pace toward the Union ledge and won’t get there until the insiders are ready. At the changing of shift, miners have a suspicious look, the reason being they are too “leaky.” Miners tell stockholders what’s being done and the miner is fired. It is believed the union managers are to blame.

100 years ago

The United States Geological Survey has recently issued a letter concerning the uses and markets for asbestos. The most common uses are for asbestos paper, millboard, pipe covering, and lagging to inclose heat pipes. Houses made of asbestos are warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Eddie Rickenbaker, famed American flyer, arrived in Moscow on an undisclosed mission, it was told today.

Maude Frazier, longtime Nevada legislator and educator and former lieutenant governor, died today in her home in Las Vegas. She was the first woman to hold the position of lieutenant governor.

A bill that would establish a tri-county commission to oversee the restoration of the Virginia and Truckee passed the assembly Tuesday.
