New look, same mission for Nevada Appeal and nevadaappeal.com

No, it’s not your imagination. Today’s Nevada Appeal looks different.

The Appeal and sister newspapers in Swift Communications have switched to a new content management system, or CMS. The system, called DTI, integrates our newspaper production and web production.

Our journalists now plan, write, edit, post to the web and design pages using the same system. Journalists covering meetings, breaking news and other events away from the Appeal’s building now are armed with MacBook Air computers. That technology upgrade is a huge boost to our mission to be the most timely and comprehensive source of news for Carson City and its surrounding area.

As part of the changes, we’ve updated the look and feel of the newspaper. Soon, our website will have a new look as well; it will feature rotating photographs, a cleaner appearance and both the Appeal’s latest news and stories from our sister paper, the Lahontan Valley News. It is aimed at working equally well on tablet, laptop and desktop computers, as well as smartphones. The redesign is based on reader feedback and research into how readers use the Internet.

The site will include Marketplace, a portal to the Appeal’s help-wanted ads, real estate listings and much more. Access to the new site will be free for all readers for a week after its unveiling, which is set for Wednesday.

Our website and newspaper are changing for the better, but our mission remains the same: to deliver you high-quality news in the manner in which you prefer to receive it.
