GOP’s, not Democrats’, ideals conflict with the Bible’s word

Bill Fullilove believes that “Liberals/Democrats are anti-God.” Why? Because delegates to the Democratic Convention opposed invoking God in the party’s platform. This actually echoes the framers’ very deliberate decision to leave the word “God” out of the Constitution, and Jefferson’s equally deliberate invocation of “nature’s God” in the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson believed that the laws of nature were the laws of God, including the endowed rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Franklin agreed with Jefferson in down playing the protection of property, which he saw as a “creature of society” that should be taxed.

Bill Fullilove tells us that the Bible has no errors, so let’s have a look. Matthew tells not to judge lest we be judged, that we cannot serve both God and money, and that it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. We should love our neighbors as we love ourselves and to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Luke warns us to be on our guard against all kinds of greed, and that when we give a feast, we will be blessed by inviting the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind. John admonishes that those without sin should cast the first stone. We may all be sinners, but we don’t all have to be hypocrites.

So there you have it, straight from on high. Do as the Bible says, then decide for yourself which side of politics is anti-God.

Close a section of Carson St. to traffic and create a park

Here is a suggestion for the downtown area. Close the area to all traffic from the Nugget to the just past Firkin and Fox and develop a park with landscaped mounds with trees, flower gardens, water fountains, park benches including some tables for people to use for eating lunches, playing games, etc. Include walking paths that will allow access to the different shops and side streets. Perhaps local vendors may be able to set up portable hot dog and/or popcorn/cotton candy stands. This will also add to the flavor of the outside concerts that are available during the summer months. Automobile traffic can be diverted to Stewart Street. Parking can be accommodated in the Nugget parking area or in a parking garage if one was developed. This could be a draw in itself and may help give folks reason to go downtown. At least it probably attract more than parallel parking.
