Marriage is created by God; we must honor it

Hebrews 13:4 tells us to “Let the marriage bed be held in honor among all and let the marriage bed be undefiled for God will judge the sexually immoral and the adulterer.” This is a biblical truth that we do not believe as Americans today. The Gallup Poll has said that 50 percent of all marriages in America end in divorce. There are as many divorces inside the church as there are outside it. Seventy-five percent of all couples live together before marriage. Marriage is held in honor by few.

Genesis 2:24 says, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” The Bible tells us clearly that it is God who made marriage. It is God who created marriage. Therefore, it is God who defines it. Hollywood does not make or define marriage. In God’s eyes, there is no “new normal.” Our changing culture does not define marriage, nor does our Constitution. Regardless of the Supreme Court decisions, they do not define or make marriage. Hebrews 13:4 tells us that God judges sexual immorality. God judges adultery. God judges fornication. God judges pornography and God does judges homosexuality. God judges any form of sex outside of marriage. This truth has not changed in God’s economy and it will not.

This spring, let’s consider seriously how we can honor marriage as it is defined by God. Start with your own. Read a marriage book together. Go to a marriage seminar. Go to a marriage counselor. Lift up and honor those couples who have a long track record of marriage. If you do nothing to honor marriage, you will hit it every time.
