Rick Carpenter, a veteran newspaper executive, has been named general manager of Northern Nevada Business Weekly. He begins work today.

John Seelmeyer, who has been both general manager and editor of the publication since September 2011, will continue as editor of NNBW.

Carpenter’s experience includes five years as vice president, editor and publisher of the Idaho Business Review in Boise.

He also has been the owner, publisher and editor of daily and weekly newspapers in Colorado and New Mexico. Carpenter has taught journalism at colleges across the West and served as a senior district executive director for the American Cancer Society in Idaho and Oregon.

“This is a great opportunity for me to work in a business-to-business publication for which I feel I am uniquely qualified, and with a company I’ve admired for years,” Carpenter said.

“We’re really pleased to add Rick to our team of business publication professionals,” said Mark Raymond, general manager of Sierra Nevada Media.

“Along with other Northern Nevada enterprises we are positioning to benefit from the improving economy. With Rick and John’s leadership we’ll further the business interests of our readers and the region.”
